CS is in the strange position of building its own replacement. AI coding assistants write, debug, and deploy code. Junior developer roles are contracting. But deep CS knowledge -- systems design, ML research, security -- retains value. The degree isn't dead, but its guaranteed-job-at-FAANG promise is. The cope: 'someone has to build the AI.' Fewer someones every year.
